The Market is Open

I will be continuing on with the series today of How to Start/Support Your Local Food Movement. This week I would like to touch on the notion of being a sales representative for your local farmers.
As we get new customers I often ask how they heard of us, and about 90% of the time it is by word of mouth. They heard it straight from YOU, our loyal customers. That just warms my heart! I will be getting new postcards soon and I would love it, if you could pass them out to your friends, family and acquaintances. This will help us grow our local foods movement. Of course we are always looking for new farmers too, and I would welcome the chance to talk to anyone that is growing or producing food in our local communities.
This Friday Ray and I will be celebrating 22 years of marriage. Hannah and Jonah have offered to run the market so that we can have dinner out. I know I am leaving you in their capable hands. See you on Friday,
Angela

The Market is Open

As I was looking for inspiration to write this weblog today I ran across this article by Sustainable Kentucky that talks about how to start/support your local food economy.
Here is the first thing this article suggests doing.

(1) Start with yourself. Seek out local farms and buy from them—year round, every week, rain or shine, higher prices or not. When you attend events, ask for local foods. When you go to locally-owned restaurants, ask for local food. When your group hires a caterer, demand that they buy from local farms and be prepared to pay the extra cost. Go to the nearest farmers market no matter the weather. Be a local food evangelist to your friends without being too preachy. (Win them with flavor!) Take local food to potlucks and family reunions. Give the gift of local food to your friends around the holidays. Join a CSA. Grow your own, buy from a local farm, or don’t eat it!

We are starting our very own local foods movement right here in Caldwell county and I thank you for your support. You are doing step one each and every week for your local farmers and I cannot say thank you enough!
Here is to our very own homegrown foods movement! So exciting!
See you Friday,
Angela

The Market is Open

The market is open and it is so hard to go to work in an office when it is so pretty outside. I would love to be putting my fingers in dirt this week. Alas, off to work I go today!
See everyone on Friday,
Angela

The Market is Open

This past week our farmily hosted the Caldwell County Leadership team to our farm. I get such a kick out of meeting folks and telling them about our farm and how much we are learning and loving what we do. Everyday is a learning experience for us newbies on the farm. We have been doing this farm thing for several years now, but I still feel we have so much to learn. You know what though? I don’t care…. I enjoy the learning process, the constant problem solving that goes on with farming, and the beautiful products that come from all the hard work we do. It makes me so proud. Anyway, I will quit gushing for now!
I look forward to seeing you on Friday,
Angela

I guess the old saying about time flying while you are having fun is true. I can hardly believe that 2015 is here already. I am looking forward to this year. It is a time of change and renewal, to leave the old habits behind and look forward to improving ourselves and our communities.
That is just what I want to do right here in our hometown. Improve our access to locally grown food. I am still running into folks that have not heard of Princeton Farm Fresh. How can that be? I need to do a better job of marketing our farmers market! I could really use your help with this. I am looking for new ways to get connected in our town. We always have room for new farmers and customers. Most of all I am looking for feedback from you our customers. What can we do better this year? What items are you looking for? Is there someone that you can connect me to, that I can share our market with? Where do you want our market to go?
I am open for any and all thoughts and suggestions. I have some fun stuff planned for this year, and I really want to bring more local food to our community. With your help, I think we can do just that. Send me an e-mail with your thoughts and suggestions and I will do my best to act upon them.
See you Friday,
Angela

Well this is it! The last market before the New Year! Can you believe that 2014 is drawing to a close and we still have fresh veggies?
We will not be open the next two weeks for Christmas and the New Year. We will return the week of January 5th. Stock up now and we look forward to serving you in the New Year.
See you on Friday,
Angela

The Market is Open

It is at this time of year that I am most grateful to be a farmer and a part of this growing foods movement in Princeton. When we first moved here in the fall of 2012, I was unable to find local seasonal food. It made the move all that much harder for us. I am very proud and grateful for the farmers that continue to offer seasonal local food throughout the year at our market. We are drawing near to the end of the year and I am in a reflecting kind of mood. Our little market has been open almost a year and a half now and we have sold $15000 (just this year) for our local farmers. Isn’t that an amazing number? This is because of YOU our customers and supporters who come out rain, snow or sunshine to get your local goods. It is because of our farmers and growers who are taking the initiative and looking for ways to grow and meet the needs of this community. We continue to love our new home here in Princeton and all the possibilities it holds for the future of local food!
See you on Friday,
Angela

Wow, can you believe that it is already December? Where has the year gone? Spring fever is already setting in here at our farm, as I am searching through seed catalogs and planning out the gardens for next year. I spent part of this weekend reading reviews of the best tomatoes of 2014 and making my wish list for 2015 garden.
We will be closed Christmas week and possibly New Years week as we will be taking some time to celebrate with family and getting the market ready for the New Year.
See you on Friday,
Angela

Looks like another crazy Kentucky Winter this year. I am not complaining, because I am happy to have seasons. I am just hoping that this is not foretelling of a long hard winter.
Next week we will open the market on Monday and close on Tuesday afternoon so that we can have a market day on Wednesday from 4-6pm. That way we can get all of our Thanksgiving goodies before Thanksgiving, and Hannah and I can shop till we drop on Friday!!
See you on Friday,
Angela
