The Market is Open

I am going to do something unusual this week. I am going to expose myself to you in a way that is pretty scary, but I am hoping that you will accept my story and see the future of our market and farm.
Last summer I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, a condition that causes widespread pain that is hard to control with meds. I was devastated and was not sure how to run our farm (since I am the full time farmer) or how to see my future in a positive light. I have battled the last 9 months in pain unsure of how to make it day to day, let alone run the farm, parent, or be a business woman. I am sure you noticed that I was not at all of the markets on Friday. My family filled in for me when the pain was just too much. They have been wonderful to me. Picking up the slack where they could and encouraging me to keep searching for answers.
Last month I finally found the answer. I found a doctor that specializes in Fibromyalgia and she did bloodwork, an intensive interview and a body test on me. What she found astounded me! I do NOT have Fibromyalgia, but a low Vitamin D level and a weak joint structure in my back. Both can be fixed. I have already started therapy, and feel improvement starting. I am renewed with hope for the future of our farm, our farmers market and most importantly myself and what I can accomplish.
I wanted to take the opportunity to thank our customers that have stayed with us through this time, when we may not have had as much available on the market. If you have given up on us, I hope that you will continue to watch for all the wonderful goodies we will have in the future. This weekend we finished our Greenhouse and we will be packing it full of seedlings that will go into our gardens this summer, fall and winter.
If you have stayed to the end of this post, I hope that this has not been TMI, but I felt that you were owed an explanation. Again, I thank you for your continued support and for the future of our farm and farmers market.
I look forward to seeing you on Friday,
Angela

I wanted to take a moment this week to congratulate Tony and Patricia Estes of Rock View Farms on their Woodsman of the World Conservation Award. Tony has worked hard on his farm to guarantee that his farm will live on through the generations, by establishing paddocks and watering troughs for his goats. In addition to planting native trees and grasses, he has worked to protect his spring that lies on the property too. We have all been enjoying his wonderful veggies that he has grown in his High Tunnel as well. Congratulations to the Estes family on all of your hard work, it is an award that you well deserved!
I look forward to seeing everyone at the market on Friday,
Angela

Well darn, I wrote a wonderful blog post this morning, and thought I saved it and had it all ready to go. Alas, I did not save it and now it is gone. Can we just chalk this up to Spring Fever? Next week I will have a fabulous post! That is if I remember to save it!!
See you at the market on Friday,

Compost added, beds tilled, seeds planted, now let the sun begin! I may be rushing it a bit, but we have begun planting in earnest. Hannah has been planting seedlings for weeks, but this weekend we also got the high tunnel planted in spring veggies.
I am ready for Spring, what about you?
See you on Friday,
Angela

Could it be that it is finally Spring? Our sheep think so, and consequently I have been on lamb duty this morning. Our first set of lambs (a boy and a girl) were born just an hour ago. I look forward to more veggies in the coming weeks?

I am really looking forward to this week of warmer temperatures. I am hoping this is the start of Spring.

Holy Moly! I don’t think I have acclimated to Kentucky yet. This winter seems to be dragging on and on. I can’t even imagine how the folks in Boston are feeling. Here I sit on pinterest, looking up anything to do with spring planting. Dreaming, hoping and praying for warmer weather. This week Hannah and I will seed the tomatoes, cucumbers, and peppers for the high tunnel. That might just get me through the next month. Right? Only a month more of this weather? Come on folks, give me some hope!!
See everyone on Friday, and we will continue the drive through service until it warms up.

Is it Spring yet? I am ready to shoot the ground hog. Here on our farm we are working hard to finish our greenhouse so we can plant more seeds. I am anxiously awaiting more sunlight and more warmth so we can get the seeds in the ground.
See you on Friday,
Angela

I am looking out my window at this gorgeous snow. I reminded of why we chose Kentucky as our new home! I love that we have seasons and the opportunity to have snow in the winter. The kids will be building snow men before long, the dogs have been playing tag for hours now, and the sheep are blending in, all you can see are their happy noses. I hope that you all are enjoying the snow as much as we are.
I will see you on Friday,
Angela
