The Market is Open

So as promised, I am going to tell you the secret today about our next adventure in local food. We (Princeton Farm Fresh) will be starting a traditional farmers market! It will be on Thursday evenings from 4-6 starting on July 2nd. The market will run for 10 weeks and we are hoping to have not only farmers, but also food vendors, kids events, and an opportunity for non profits to do a bit of fund raising as well. We are working on the location, but are actively targeting the downtown Princeton area. We are still trying to put everything together for this, so more details will come soon.
Our online market will still happen on Friday’s from 4-6 at the Tractor Supply without any interruptions.
This is just one more opportunity for you to keep your food dollars local.
See you on Friday,
Angela

Finally, summer and warmer weather is here! Along with it are the super yummy veggies that are starting to come along. The tomatoes shouldn’t be too far off now, along with the cucumbers and eggplant. Rock View Farms even has squash this week! I am so excited!!
I have big news coming soon too. Something our town has been needing is coming our way this summer. I will leave you with that little tease, and I promise next week I will spill the beans!
See you on Friday,
Angela

I am again reminded of the wonders of nature as I am seeding and planting vegetables and flowers for the coming months of production. I love how magical it is to plant a seed and just a few days later watch it sprout up over the dirt to reach the sun. For me this is the best part. I feel that I have dabbled my hand with nature and brought this tiny seedling into the world. Corny right? I lived in a mid size town and we did not plant things in kindergarten. I did not grow up on a farm or planting gardens. I wish I had, maybe I would have figured out what I wanted to be when I grew up a little before I turned 40. If I had, maybe I would know how to keep rabbits and deer from eating all of my plants that I have taken so much care to plant, and just maybe I would know how to identify the part that I need when I go to the farm store to figure out my latest problem on the farm. We are still enjoying the process of learning here on our farm, and there is so much to learn. Thank you for your words of encouragement each week as we bring you local food.
See you on Friday,
Angela

Thank you all for understanding last weeks closure. We had two wonderful graduation ceremonies this weekend. One that we attended at Lyon County High School and one that we put on ourselves at a pavilion in Kuttawa. There were both very meaningful, but I was reminded that there are always different ways to do anything. I am very proud of our two graduates this year. Both worked hard in different ways, and succeeded! One is excited to be going on to college and one is taking a gap year to discover what it is that she wants to do.
I am so thankful for our life here in Kentucky. The opportunities it has given us and the new friends we have made. On this Memorial Day I would like to thank our service members who have served their country and remember those that have fallen for our freedom. For me this is a special day to pamper my husband who is still actively serving in the military at Fort Campbell.
Happy Memorial Day and I will see you on Friday,
Angela

The Market is Closed this Week

Sorry folks, the market is closed this week so that our family can graduate two amazing young individuals. Aaron is graduating Friday from Lyon County High School and Hannah is graduating Saturday from our Homeschool program. Thank you for understanding and I can’t wait to see everyone next week.

Clarification

The Market will not be open the week of the 22nd. That is the Friday we have graduation starting. Sorry about the confusion. I ran in to write this post from the water line issues.

I am always amazed at how fast the weather changes here in Kentucky. I am grateful for the Spring, but always wish it would stay a bit longer. This year it seems we went from a short Spring right into Summer.
This Mother’s Day was spent putting in water lines to the garden and greenhouse. In typical Magney fashion we bought the wrong parts and we still do not have water running. Ugh! Hoping very soon to have water to the house and the gardens, or I will become very smelly quick.
Next week we have two of our kiddos graduating so we will not be open on Friday. I hope that you can understand our desire to be at both of their graduations. One on Friday evening and one on Saturday morning. It looks to be a very busy busy weekend.
I look forward to seeing everyone on Friday,
Angela

I would like to welcome our grassfed farmer James back today! I am so excited, as I am sure you are too. I have been craving his pastured pork and grassfed beef all winter long. He has pork available today, and will have beef available in two weeks. James has been working hard on his business over the winter to improve production and even went to a conference with Joel Salatin (the grassfed, pasture fed meat guru). I see wonderful things in James’ future as he works to restructure and fine tune his operation for both the well being of his animals and the long term financial sustainability of the farm.
I can’t wait for Friday to BBQ up some of the chops, burgers, and sausage! It looks to be just the nice warm week that will allow all sorts of grilling!
See you all Friday,
Angela

No blog post today, as my Internet is down due to the storm on Saturday. The pleasures of living in a picturesque area. I look forward to seeing everyone on Friday!

Wow, what a great turn out last week! Thank you so much for the great response for our local farmers market.
As a farmer, I am ready for the rain to slow down so that I can get into our ground and plant. However, my good friend from Nevada is here, and I am reminded of how precious rain and water really are. As California and Nevada head into their fourth year of severe drought, I am reminded of how blessed we are to have rain and the lush foliage that it brings. The life that it creates, both plant and animal life, and the possibilities it leaves for the farmers, gardeners, and homesteaders. On our farm our sheep are really enjoying the wonderful grass that the rain has replenished. A lot of ranchers in California and Nevada are selling their animals because of a lack of forages for them. I suspect that their will be a rise in price for vegetables in the grocery stores or they will be forced to bring them in from farther locations. So today, I am so very thankful for the rain, local gardeners, and our local meat farmers who plant and grow through the rainy season.
See you at the market on Friday,
Angela
