Sorry the market is opened late.

Hello Everyone,
We are sorry about opening the market late. My mom has been fighting an infection and was hospitalized overnight due to low blood pressure from dehydration. She will becoming home sometime this afternoon after they finish running some tests to make sure she has fully recovered. Not to worry, the market is still on for Friday pickups. We will be there with all your favorite winter veggies.
See you Friday,
Hannah

Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day!!! Hope everyone has been bundled up and keeping warm this weekend. Fun fact:
Many insects prepare for winter by creating their own “antifreeze.” During the fall, insects produce more glycerol, which gives their body a “super-cooling ability” by allowing bodily fluids to drop below freezing without causing ice damage. Their glycerol levels drop again during the spring. “59 Cold Facts About . . . Winter” http://facts.randomhistory.com/winter-facts.html

Weblog Entry

Hello Everyone,
It’s Hannah, I am writing the weblog for this week. Hope you all have been able to brave the first snow fall of the year fairly well. What a switch to go from 50 degrees in December to 10 degrees this January morning! On our farm, the new flock of chickens keep picking up their feet and shaking them off in disgust while cackling “This snow is not for us birds!” Hopefully with the sun brightly shining today the snow and ice will melt soon. Through the cold temperatures we still have all the wonderful winter veggies producing and available on the market for your favorite winter recipes. See you Friday covered in our winter coats, scarves, and mittens. Stay warm!!

I will see you on Friday,
Angela

It sure has been a warm Fall this year! I am not sure if this is the norm here, but it hasn’t been for the last 3 Fall’s we have lived here. It really has been nice for this farmer that put in all her fall crops extremely late! Hannah has found a few small broccoli heads forming. I was starting to think they might be Spring broccoli. Here is looking to the bright side of a warm fall.
See you on Friday,
Angela

It has been such a warm fall this year, that I feel like I am back in Georgia. For us, this has been great! We still have high tunnels full of green veggies just waiting for your dinner plates. We still have carrots growing from a late seed planting. Albeit things are growing slower due to shorter days, but they are still growing. I will try and get photos up on our facebook page this week, because it is just so beautiful.
I look forward to seeing everyone on Friday,
Angela

I hope that everyone had a great Thanksgiving. We had a big event here. We are so used to just celebrating by ourselves, because we are military and never close to Nevada, where our families live. However, my Aunt and Uncle have moved to Princeton this year, and we were so blessed to have them with us to celebrate. Instead of reminding me that we didn’t have family around, this holiday was a pleasure knowing that we could share it with loved ones. We had a total of 11 folks around our table, which meant that we had to do some rearranging of furniture. The turkey’s were fabulous – Thank you Idle Hours Farm. We had our own sweet potatoes, and milk, cream and eggnog from JD Country Milk. It was simply a fantastic holiday for our family.
See you on Friday,
Angela

Wow- one week till Thanksgiving! Where does the time go? We will not be open on Thanksgiving week, so get your orders done this week. I know we will be ordering lots of milk for the coming weeks. Please remember that Friday the 20th is the day for Fresh Turkey pickups. You will pay remaining dollars to Mr Hunter for your turkeys. I am so excited to have fresh (not frozen) turkeys this year.
See everyone on Friday,
Angela

Good Morning friends
I am so excited to tell you about Idle Hours Farms Pastured Turkeys. Mr. Hunter has been raising pasture turkeys for several years using organic practices. These will be fresh turkeys when you pick them up on the 20th of November. No worries about forgetting to take these out to thaw, just store in your refridge until Turkey Day and cook. These are heritage turkeys and so their weights will be between 7-14lbs. Please make sure you request the size you would like in the comments under your order for the turkey. If you need 20 pounds please buy two! This is the first year that Mr Hunter has been with our market and I hope we can show him the Princeton Local Foods Love!!
See you on Friday,
Angela

I would like to tell you how magical I find it when I attend Farmers Conferences and meet someone in our area that does not have an outlet to sell their goods. Last weekend is just such a weekend! I met the Rushing’s at the Blueberry Conference in Metcalfe County and we were discussing blueberries, when my lovely husband mentioned that we have an online market. Mr Rushing admitted that he had made apple cider and maple syrup this year. Can you say, “yummy” with me? They anticipate having blueberries and vine berries next summer. How exciting for us!!
I look forward to seeing them on Friday and tasting these wonderful syrups. Please help me welcome Bizzell Bluff Farm into our market. See you on Friday,
Angela
